The history of American philanthropy

From 2014-2016, Dr. Gifford served as project historian for the The Philanthropy Initiative at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History (NMAH). The Philanthropy Initiative explores the history of philanthropy in America.

His many contributions to the Philanthropy Initiative included a series of essays on the early history of American philanthropy.
